On the planet Raxxla there’s an alien construct that’s a gateway to other Universes, and all that’s in those Universes in the way of bounty, and treasures, and aliens, and life . . .

It seems that there might be only 4 beacons in each sector. One broadcasts at 0.15, one at 0.30, one at 0.45 and one at the full hour.

I will have the co-ordinates shortly, but it is essential that we discover this secret before they do. Salomes life may very well depend upon it . . .

The Tale of The Dark Wheel

The copper skinned naranthu are noted myth makers, one of there stories is the legend of ‘The Great Ship’ an account of a mysterious race that lives in ‘The Dark Wheel’ a galaxy named thus because it is shrouded in black clouds of intergalactic dust and gas. This race is indisputabally human for they are bypedal, smooth skinned, five fingered and have a legend of Earth, the mother world that SPAWNED them. Equally indisputable is the fact that they collonised ‘The Dark Wheel’ while the human race was still in the stone age …

It is now known that during the first phase of the human kinds expansion into the stars, a GENERATION SHIP populated by more than a million colonists passed through a WARP FAULT in space and was FLUNG across time and space imurging into the naranthu sector at a time where no galaxy is in that area had yet developed fully intelligent life. The humans settled many worlds in ‘The Dark Wheel’ but it is thought that there passage through the warp hole had effected there minds, causing them to be intesnly suspicious of contact with other intelligent races.

The Federal astrocartography department has issued a public request for exploration data. Mark Devene, head of the department, elaborated on the nature of the appeal:

“We are looking for data from three specific zones in order to verify certain hypotheses. We want high-quality information on system configurations, planet types, spectral classes and compositions.”

“We are looking at the following coordinates: PLAA AEC IZ-N C20-1, PRU AESCS DL-W C15-37 and EAFOTS EU-R C4-1. Explorers might be more familiar with the colloquial names for these areas – Hawkin’s Gap, the Conflux and the Formidine Rift. Pilots should travel to one of these locations and investigate out to a radius of 200 light years.”

The Tau Ceti Crimson Legal Solutions has volunteered to coordinate the Federal operation. Meanwhile, mysterious organisation The Children of Raxxla has issued an identical request, claiming the data will be used to prove the innocence of the group’s leader, Kahina Loren.

Both campaigns begin on the 17th of November 3302 and will run for two weeks.

“The first thing you see is a shimmering, silver disc, a double spiral of tiny bright points. It slowly turns: it’s a galaxy in miniature, with the same intense blur of light at its centre, because here is where the biggest tombs are to be found.

Come closer and soon you can see that the stars in this galaxy are markers, great lumps of metal, heavily inscribed with the words and symbols of a thousand religions. The cemetery is a bizarre and moving sight. The markers are rarely less than a thousand feet across. There are chrome-alloy crosses, titanium Stars of David, duralium henges, and all the strange symbolic shapes of the worlds, and the minds and the faiths that have come to die in this Star traveller’s special place.

Tethered below this vast, rotating mausoleum is the dodecahedral shape of a ‘Dodo’ class space station, the home of the Cemetery Authorites. Here you go through security checks and get your visitor’s visa. And as you stand in the queue, staring up through the translucent ceiling of the Customs Hall, you can see the battered, broken ships of many of the dead, still attached to the silent tomb that contains the body.”

Robert Holdstock – the Dark Wheel

The Dark Wheel was closely associated with Raxxla, and the indications were that this group of individuals were actively seeking it out and had, by some accounts, found it. The Dark Wheel was known to be recruiting pilots of exceptional ability and who also had a desire for exploration. Certainly they maintained a cloak of anonymity.

The only canon individual known to have actually been a member of the Dark Wheel was an Elite combateer by the name of Jason Ryder. Whatever knowledge he had about their operations (and indeed the location of Raxxla itself) was lost when he was assassinated some time prior to 3125. His son, Alex Ryder, later despatched the assassin in a pitched battle over a planet called ‘Cirag’, though with revisions to system naming over the last two hundred years, the exact location of the altercation is uncertain.

The Dark Wheel dropped out of mind in the intervening years, the conclusion being that perhaps their membership had aged and they had become defunct over the centuries.

This guidebook lets you see the entire story of Elite: Reclamation, from beginning to end.

Reports from the “Distant Worlds” Expedition indicate that a certain “CMDR Salomé” has, on occasion, been seen in flight and at various waypoints along the route taken by the explorers. Holofac images of her greeting CMDRs at the Beagle Point rendezvous site have been received from the far side of the galaxy.

The organisers of the Distant Worlds Expedition neither confirm or deny her involvement and she does not appear on the official list of participants. However, unconfirmed reports from the Distant Worlds expedition indicate that she was seen amidst a convoy of other vessels belonging to the secretive “Children of Raxxla” faction.

Rafe chuckled and shook his head. ‘You see, that’s the big question. Your father was chasing the mythical planet Raxxla.

Does it exist, or does it not? If it does, then on Raxxla there’s an alien construct that’s a gateway to other Universes, and all that’s in those Universes in the way of bounty, and treasures, and aliens, and life . . .

‘Jason Ryder was convinced that Raxxla existed. That’s why he trained for, and became a part of, the Dark Wheel, the legend-seekers. I hadn’t heard much from him or about him for some time until just before he died, when he told me he’d found evidence for the real existence of Raxxla. He came back from Deep Space to get a proper team together . . . ‘ Rafe smiled bitterly. ‘But just before he was due to go back, he decided to take a safe-worlds holiday jaunt with his son . . . and an assassin was waiting for him.’ ‘But why?’ Alex asked. ‘Why kill him for finding Raxxla?’

‘Because there are people on Raxxla already. This is only a guess, mind you, but from what happened to Jason I’d say it was close to being right. We’ve long suspected that a corps of élites lives there, and are exploiting the gateway. They’re powerful, twisted men. Powerful enough to hire an assassin to kill the threat to their dominance.’

A spokesperson for the Sirius Corporation has revealed that the mega-corporation has deployed hundreds of deep-space probes and signalling technologies throughout the galaxy.

The spokesperson said: “Sending pilots into the void is fraught with danger. These probes can go further and faster than a human pilot, at much reduced cost and with, I daresay, more reliability. We’ve been working closely with the Mars High Astrocartography department on the probes’ design.”

“Human pilots are interested in sightseeing, chasing myths and ‘making their mark’ on the galactic stage. They get sidetracked. Our probes are immune to such distractions. At present, galactic exploration is conducted in a sporadic and improvisational way. Soon we will have far better coverage of the galaxy.”

One independent pilot, who opted to remain anonymous, said: “There’s something odd about this. I’d hazard a guess these probes have self-defence capabilities. I’ll be giving them a wide berth.”

Commander Alessia Verdi is a respected member of the Children of Raxxla and a person who is close to Commander Salomé.

Alessia Verdi is played just like Salomé as an advanced NPC. They are played in a pure role-played fashion and is used by FDev as a tool to spice up the story with a more interactive touch. They may only be contacted when they are logged into Open.

Our origins, and Salomé’s first encounter with the Children of Raxxla have been archived by one Commander Alessia Verdi, where she provides details about our leaders, members and answers some questions that have gone previously unanswered in the Elite Universe’s Official Lore.

Senator Kahina Tijani Loren, aka Salomé

CMDR Salomé is the officially sanctioned ‘advanced’ NPC in game that physically represents the character from the book and brings her to life within the actual gameworld we all share. This allows for a great opportunity for players to interact with her, converse with her, get clues, and attend official events that she presides over.

The character is 100% roleplayed so will not take part in idle chit chat, nor (we’re told) is she obliged to answer questions directly when asked. If she wants to divulge a clue, she will most likely do it during any story related conversation.

Players have been asked not to contact CMDR Salomé if she is online and in a private group or solo mode (these modes are presumably used to move her around in preparation for the next part of the story). She is only classed as ‘active’ and approachable if she is in Open Play.

As far as we’re aware she accepts all friend requests. This allows those on her list to be notified when she is in Open Play and pinpoints her location on the map.

If she is in Open Play and you message her, don’t feel offended if she does not reply. She often ignores CoR Consul hails too, we presume that she is in convo with others, doesn’t always see the message, or could be otherwise distracted by in-game situations. We don’t pester her if a hail is not answered, all sorts of reasons could be occurring that don’t allow her time to respond.

The identity or identities of those who ‘control’ Salomé are only known to the author and or FD, and she will only act in accordance to their direction.

Salome’s message to the Children of Raxxla
April 7th 3302
Sanctuary Hill, Beagle Point

Commanders, I am gratified to see so many of you have survived the voyage here.

My heart goes out to those who lost their lives along the way.

Remember them with me.

We are tens of thousands of lightyears from your homes in the core worlds.

What you have achieved is nothing short of breath-taking.

The first mass expedition to the far side of the galaxy.

Reflect on that for a moment.

You have proved yourselves true explorers, true adventurers.

You have survived many perils along the way; neutron star, black holes…
Damage, high gee worlds, double stars… and the haunted emptiness
of the void.

I can assure you that the exploration data to have amassed will be invaluable
in the future.

Guard it carefully.

It may be more important than you know.

Six months ago the Children of Raxxla began an undertaking that has bee tried
many time before.

Raxxla itself has eluded everyone for nearly five hundred years.
I have found that it was first mentioned in the year 2814.

Since then, many have set out to identify it, locate it and even exploit it…

Those who went before you failed, lost in the darkness and now long forgotten
by all but historians and lore masters.

Yet, the legend remains.

We have better technology than they did. We can push further and faster.
We have proved we can traverse the galaxy.

Thus I firmly believe the mysteries of the galaxy will be revealed to us.

Raxxla, the Rift, and the strange permit locked sectors of the galaxy.

We will uncover the truths that have been concealed by powers
both seen and unseen.

We are the vanguard of that search, to us it falls to keep looking when
others give up.

To keep pushing the veil of the galaxy aside, to find out what lies
beyond the darkness.

Now i must return home, I fear that danger threatens the fragile
peace we left behind.

Shadowy forces are at work in the core worlds.

You must make the journey too, a voyage as daunting as the one we have
already undertaken.

So when the loneliness stalks you, when the isolation gnaws at your mind…

When fear is your only companion, when the sheer scale of the galaxy
crushed in upon you…

Then look up… Look up and say to yourself:
“I have loved the starts too dearly to be fearful of the night.”

Find your resolve, Commanders, for you are the true “Children of Raxxla.”

I wish you a safe voyage home, but for now…

Remember!

My fello children

I bring you a missive in this dark time. I fear Salome has unwittingly revealed something, though I do not know how it has transpired – perhaps she has been tortured in her incarceration.

Yesterday I undertook a dangerous mission into the Federation space. My contacts there indicate that their major exploreation department on Mars High, headed up by Karl Devene, is planning a major exploration venture in the next few days (I believe Thursday). They are planning to search extensively and systematically in The Rift, the Conflux and in Hawkin’s Gap and will be asking CMDRs to do the same – they call it, euphamistacally, a ‘Community Goal’.

I will have the co-ordinates shortly, but it is essential that we discover this secret before they do. Salomes life may very well depend upon it. I have arranged for us to launch our own goal, in compettion.

Please send word to all loyal to the CoR to prepare to sign up to this – I belive it’s a race against time. We must discover this secret before the Federation either uses it against us, or buries it forever.

My friends – this could be our last chance. Remember!

In haste

Unidentified Spacecraft Observed at Obsidian Orbital
31 JAN 3302
Speculation is rife at Obsidian Orbital this morning following a close-quarters encounter with an unidentified Diamondback Explorer. According to Chloe Anders, a member of the surveillance team at Christian Dock, the mysterious vessel came within 10 kilometres of the station while performing what was described as a “high-speed pass”:

“I saw it approach and assumed it was about to submit a docking request, but instead it just started circling the station. It had an unusual designation – “S6: 7″ – so I tried hailing it, but there was no response. Then our sensors lit up. I couldn’t believe it – the damned thing was scanning the station! I told the weapons team to stand by, but the next thing I knew, it was gone.”

Asked for her opinion of the vessel’s purpose, Anders said: “I know it sounds crazy, but when I saw it circling the station like that, the only thing I could think was that it was looking for something.”
